Questions about Sessions

Q: When is the best time take newborn/maternity/milestone photos?
A: Newborn sessions are best in the first 5-12 days after birth, but they can be photographed anytime within the first month.
Maternity sessions are best shot between 33-36 weeks, when your belly is nicely rounded, but you’re still pretty comfy. For mamas expecting multiples, we can always plan to shoot earlier, as needed.
Milestone Sessions are great throughout the first year (newborn, 3 months, 6 months, 1 year), or in celebration of great accomplishments, like when baby first begins to walk or feed themselves, or the first day of preschool or kinder.  There’s so much to celebrate in the growing up years!

Q: When should we contact you to book our session?
A: Right away!:)While we always do our best to accommodate last minute requests, we typically suggest touching base 1-2 months prior to your desired session date, to begin the booking & planning process. If planning for a newborn session, 2-3 months in advance is great, just in case baby arrives a little early.

Q: Do you offer mini-sessions?
A: Yes! We offer seasonal mini-sessions, typically in the spring & fall. Likewise, clients who have booked a full session, are welcomed to book an “add-on” mini-session at any time within a year of their full session.

Q: The whole family is in town! Can you help with a group photo?
A: Yes! Our Extended Family sessions are taylor made for big family reunions or groups of friends (a mom’s club!).  We also offer add-on mini sessions for individual families within the group. Get in touch for more info!

Q: Where are newborn sessions held?
A: Newborn sessions typically take place in the comfort of your home.  We like to shoot in rooms with beautiful light. This usually means in the nursery, the master bedroom, and living room.  During our pre-session consultation we’ll talk about what areas of your home will work best for your baby’s session.

Q: Where are maternity & family sessions held?
A: Maternity & family sessions can take place in your home or on-location — the beach, a playground, a carnival, or wherever we can dream! During our pre-session consultation we’ll talk about what makes the most sense for your session goals, and plan accordingly.

Questions about The Process & Experience of Custom Photography

Q: What is a pre-session consultation?
A: Our pre-session consultation is a chance for you to get to know me, and for me to get to know you and your family. We’ll take time to chat about:
· the personalities/likes/dislikes of each person who will be photographed
· understand your inspiration & vision session
· develop goals and make a *must-have* shot list
· take photos of the walls in your home where you’d like to hang photos from our session
· confirm dates for both your photo session & ordering session
By the end of our pre-session consultation, we’ll have answered all your questions and feel completely prepped for a successful shoot!

Q: What’s that fancy app you use to help me plan for wall art?
A: We use an iPad app called Preveal to help you visualize exactly what your photos will look like on your walls, and select print sizes accordingly. Below is a quick how-to guide for photographing the walls in your home to use with our app.

Q: What happens when my order arrives?
A: When your order arrives to our studio, we’ll take time to fully check it over for any imperfections. Once we’re satisfied that all looks great, we’ll call to schedule delivery.  If your order includes a complicated wall gallery, we’ll stay to assist with the proper installation.

Questions about Costs

Q: What is your session fee & what’s included?
A: Our session fee is $225. The fee covers the photographer’s time & talent. The fee does not include any digital or printed keepsake products. All products are purchased separately during your ordering session.

Q: Is there a minimum purchase during our ordering session?
A: Yes, we require a minimum purchase of $500 during your ordering session. If you’re on a tight budget, worry not! There are wall portraits, gallery wall collections, albums, and digital collections available at this price point.

Q: What is the average investment during an ordering session?
A: The average client invests $1200-$3500 at their ordering session, investing in fine art for their walls, heirloom albums, and/or digital collections.

Q: Do you offer payment plans?
A: Yes! Any order over $500 can be broken into 2-4 payments, pending your needs. Year long membership payment plans are also available. Please note that your order will not be delivered until all payments are made in full.

Q: We really want to work with you, but we just don’t think we can afford it.  Do you offer any longer term payment plans?
A: Yes! We call it Membership. We’ve setup a special set of collections just for members that include wall art, album options, and digital files; and we’ve stretched the payments over a full year. Get in touch for more details on membership today!

Q: Can I see a full price list?
A: Absolutely! We want to be sure you’re 100% comfortable with your investment in custom photography prior to booking your session.  To that end, we’ll be sure to review pricing for all products of interest during your pre-session consultation.

Q: What about refunds?
A: Your session fee is due at the time of booking to secure your session date & time. This fee is non-refundable. That being said, we understand that life happens and offer the option to reschedule your session up to two times with a minimum of 24-hours notice. If rescheduling less than 24-hours prior to your session, a $75 rebooking fee will apply. Also, due to the custom nature of orders, all sales are final.

Questions about Editing

Q: Do you edit the photos?
A: Absolutely! Preliminary editing consists of culling the photos from our session down to the best 40-60 images that tell your story, then making adjustments for brightness, contrast, and color as needed. The photos you choose for wall art or inclusion in an album are then fully retouched in prep for production. The same applies to purchased high resolution digital files.

Q: Gah! I meant to lose 10-pounds before our session, but… life. Can you take a little off my chin/arm/belly/etc?
A: I so feel you, and I want you to feel good about your photo! If something is bugging you about a photo that you otherwise love, let’s talk and see what we can do to make it right. Editing fees will apply and are quoted on a case-by-case basis.
